String Light Collection Event Continues to 01/31/23

Our annual string light collection is back thanks to our partnership with Eaton County Resource Recovery, now through January 31st, we will be collecting string lights (such as Christmas and holiday lights) for recycling.

Holiday Hours

Please be advised that CARA will be CLOSED on Saturday, December 24, 2022 but will be OPEN on Saturday, December 31, 2022. We hope you all have a wonderful holiday season!  Thank you for recycling!

Aluminum vs. Tin

 We have been noticing more frequent mis-dumpings of tin cans with aluminum and aluminum in the cans. We ask that you please check your material first before dumping to ensure that it is the right material going into the correct bin. Aluminum is non-magnetic while tin cans are magnetic. Tin cans are usually darker in color and generally heavier in weight than aluminum. When in doubt, please check with a staff member. Thank you for your cooperation!  #RecycleRight #CARAcares

 Please be advised that due to upcoming staffing issues, we will be shorthanded for the next few months, which means the possibility of needing to close without being able to provide much notice in advance. 

To help keep us up and running, we are asking for volunteers that are willing to be trained and help fill in while we are short handed. 

This is also a good time to remind everyone that our staff work outdoors with no heat source. If conditions are unsafe for our workers, we will close for the day, which with our ever-changing weather in Michigan, can also be without much notice.

#2 Pesticide/Herbicide Containers are Recyclable Only After TRIPLE Rinsing

We have been getting asked this a lot lately- Yes, we accept #2 pesticide/herbicide containers for recycling but only after they have been emptied and triple rinsed. Thank you for recycling! ♻

Egg Cartons! $1.00 Per Dozen!

 Did you know? CARA recycles egg cartons - but we also upcycle and sell them for $1 per dozen! *We can only accept the boxboard and styrofoam containers - sadly we cannot take the plastic ones.

PLEASE DO NOT STEAL FROM CARA.

Sometime between 12:30 PM Saturday 06/25/22 and 9:15 AM Monday 06/27/22 there were 20 to 30 pallets stolen from CARA.  These pallets are used for shipping our materials to our vendor and are an integral part of our operation.  As a reminder, the removal of any items from CARA without explicit permission is illegal. This theft has placed CARA in a  bind both logistically and financially.  If you have any information about the theft or their whereabouts, we ask that you please come forward.

Cooking Oil Recycling - No Motor Oil

Did you know? CARA has a cooking oil recycling container! Bring in your used (clean*) cooking oil anytime that we are open. Please no motor oil- For motor oil recycling, please check with your local auto parts stores.  

*Cooking oil cannot be accepted for recycling if it is mixed with water, food sauces, gravies, large amounts of food particles, plastic, paper, motor oil, fuels, chemicals, or detergents.

We are happy to say that we will be taking cardboard again tomorrow, Saturday, April 30, 2022! 

A huge 'thank you!' to the hardworking crew at DPW! Thanks to them, we have a working cardboard compactor again!

We are unable to accept cardboard/boxboard for the remainder of the day today, Thursday, April 28, 2022 due to an equipment issue. Accumulating snow is expected to develop by Thursday afternoon with total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches Thursday afternoon and evening after a period of sleet, snow and freezing rain early in the morning. High winds are also expected with gusts up to 25 miles per hour. 

We are unsure if we will be open on Saturday 02/19/22 at this time.
