Charlotte Area Recycling Authority will now be open New Year's Eve Day, at regularly scheduled hours, thanks to our generous staff that volunteered to work!

*Unfortunately we are still not accepting miscellaneous plastics and miscellaneous bags. As always, we are not accepting wrapping paper or tissue. Thank you very much for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

Happy New Year!!!

CARA will no longer be accepting some plastics...

Effective immediately the CARA recycling center can no longer accept miscellaneous plastics,
#3, 4, 5, 6, or 7

CARA will continue to accept PETE #1 (such as clear water bottles), HDPE #2 natural (such as milk/vinegar jugs), HDPE #2 color (such as colored detergent bottles/jugs) as well as shopping bags #2 and #4 and plastic caps and rings.

CARA apologizes for the inconvenience, but this change is being dictated by market conditions. CARA will continue to search for a new outlet for this material, however until one is found, these plastics cannot be accepted. Your cooperation and understanding is appreciated.

Next time you go to throw something away, ask yourself, is it recyclable?!

Even though 80% of our waste is recyclable, only 30% actually gets recycled. Lets all do our part and recycle everything that we can!
