CARA No Longer Able to Accept Plastic Bags or Electronics of Any Kind

**ATTENTION**
Effective April 30, 2016, Charlotte Area Recycling Authority is no longer able to accept plastic bags or electronics of any kind, due to a steep increase in cost to recycle them coupled with the growing deficit that CARA is facing.

CARA is recommending that electronics be recycled through the Eaton County Resource Recovery events and that plastic bags be recycled through your local grocery store.
If you have a question on what materials are recyclable at CARA, please call (517) 213-1266 or email at cara@charlottemi.org.
CARA will continue to search for a new outlet for this material. Meanwhile, please contact the Eaton County Resource Recovery at (517) 543-3686 or email at mbroe@eatoncounty.org for how to properly dispose of your electronics.
Your cooperation and understanding is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your continued support.

CARA Announces Senator Rick Jones as Honorary Chairman

Senator Rick Jones Named as Honorary Chairperson for First Annual Trash Walk Fundraiser for the Charlotte Area Recycling Authority
The Friends of Charlotte Area Recycling Authority is thrilled to announce that State Senator Rick Jones will be serving as the Honorary Chairperson for the first annual Trash Walk fundraiser to benefit the Charlotte Area Recycling Authority (CARA).
Senator Jones, in conjunction with the Eaton Area Senior Center is providing swag bags with sponsor giveaways for the first 150 registered walkers for this event. An avid support of recycling, the Senator invites folks to join him as he leads the walk through the downtown streets of Charlotte. “I look forward to joining Friends of CARA with this fun activity that should help keep our local station active with providing a place for our recycling needs.”, stated Senator Jones. “I invite folks to join me and walk for a great cause.”
Recycling is an important service to our community. Last year alone, the Charlotte Area Recycling Authority diverted more than 600 tons of waste from the landfill. However, due to the major economic downturn in the market for all recyclable materials, in conjunction with a dwindling volunteer workforce, CARA is facing huge financial difficulties.
Friends of CARA, is hoping to help alleviate some of their fiscal complications by hosting the first annual 5k Trash Walk fundraiser, set for Saturday May 14, 2016 at Bennett Park, beginning at 1:00pm.
Members of the community are encouraged to help support this cause by forming a team of colleagues, friends, family, neighbors and club members, or by walking as an individual with Senator Jones. Participants collect donations for CARA, and may earn prizes, such as a walk t-shirt.  Sponsored refreshments and corporate giveaways will be provided for all participants.
To register your team, or for more information on the Trash Walk, please contact CARA Director Quinn Underwood at 517-213-1266 or cara@charlottemi.org – Please like us on Facebook as well!

CARA Closed Due to Slippery Conditions (April 9th Edition - Happy Spring!)

Good Morning Recyclers! We will unfortunately be closed due to weather this morning as our parking lot is unsafe for walking due to extremely slippery conditions. Staff has been working on it this morning and can't seem to make a dent, so for everyone's safety, the judgement call was made to close. So sorry for any inconvenience this may cause! We will be open at regularly scheduled hours on Tuesday, April 12th for all of your recycling needs.
